The Greater Oxford Community Foundation is pleased to award $60,000 to 35 outstanding Talawanda High School graduates. The scholarships are established through various local organizations to award students pursuing specific career fields, students who exemplify characteristics of devoted community members, or those who are excellent representatives for memorial scholarships. “I am extremely thankful for all the scholarships the Greater Oxford Community Foundation and its donors provided to the senior class at Talawanda this year. I will be attending the University of Northwestern Ohio in the fall. I will be earning my Associate D egree in Diesel Technology and my Agricultural Equipment Technician certification.,” says recipient Gunner Green. Gunner awarded the Logan David Keebler Memorial Scholarship, the Tammy McCartney Memorial Scholarship, the Oxford Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, and the Rotary Club Scholarship. "Receiving scholarships is a huge help to me to further my education at Miami University and follow my dreams of becoming a Registered Nurse. My dad was diagnosed with kidney failure at a young age and since then had continuous medical expenses therefore making it hard for my parents to help me financially through college." Kailey Schlichter, recipient of the Nancy Kane Continuing Education Award. Scholarships were announced at a senior awards night hosted at Talawanda High School on May 18, 2022. After returning home from the event, students were welcomed by a yard sign reading “A Greater Oxford Community Foundation Scholarship Winner Lives Here!” placed by Foundation volunteers during the ceremony. On May 24, The Greater Oxford Community Foundation put on a “Foundation Celebration Station” event for the graduates following their senior night. The students were greeted by many foundation donors, supporters, and volunteers; music, a photo opportunity including a photo wall and fun photo props, and a Graeter’s Ice Cream sundae bar. The graduates spent their time mingling with Foundation board members, classmates, and writing thank-you notes to donors. This was the first time the Celebration Station Event was able to operate without COVID-19 restrictions, but measures were taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable in-person celebration.
